Product Subtype meaning and logic

Could somebody explain the exact meanings of « Product Subtype » parameter values: « Finished product », « Semi-finished product » and « Component »?
What are the impacts of using them?
Any underlying logic behind them?

Hello,

Product subtype is used to identify the type of product, such as finished product, semi-finished product, or component. This has various impacts on the Product form, Bill of Materials, MRP, and Manufacturing Order.

For example, In Product Form, if the product subtype is component, the procurement method will always be « buy. » The cost sheet group, production information, BOM panel, and economic manufacturing quantity will also be displayed according to the product subtype.

In the bill of materials (personalized-bill-of-material-grid, bill-of-material-grid), the product is domain-filtered with the product subtype. The « Define sub bill of materials » field is hidden when the product subtype is 3.

In the manufacturing order, the sale order line, product, and MRP forecast set panel are domain-filtered with the product subtype. The product is also domain-filtered according to the product subtype.

In the product production form, the cost sheet group, manufacturing order component valuation method select, and BOM component valuation method select are displayed according to the product subtype.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best Regards,
